Mrs. Virginia Anne Wilson Baker
September 10, 1925 - May 05, 2012
Virginia Anne Wilson Baker of Milford, died at Huron Valley Hospital on Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the care of her husband and sons. She was 86 years old.  Born on September 10 , 1925 in Grosse Pointe, she was the only daughter of Lansing and Helen Virginia (Coller) Wilson. She grew up in the Detroit metro area and worked downtown in one of the department stores before the family moved out to Milford which was her father’s hometown.

In December of 1946, she met Jackson Baker at a social in Clyde.  He had just returned from combat duty in Europe with the Army Air Corp.  Their courtship grew into a lifelong marriage which began on May 14, 1949 at Milford Presbyterian Church.  The newlyweds lived in Clyde until moving to Milford in 1955 to raise their two sons.  When the boys were older, Virginia took work at the Milford D & C Store on Main Street and in the early 1970’s began working part time at Richardson-Bird Funeral Home. When the Lynch family bought the funeral home in 1974, they asked her to consider full-time work and for the next twenty years she served as receptionist and secretary with Lynch & Sons and cared for an entire generation of bereaved families in the community. After her retirement, she worked for years as a volunteer inpatient care at Huron Valley Hospital. A woman of abiding faith, she was a lifelong, active member of Milford Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, worked bake sales and blood drives and played in the bell choir.

Virginia Baker loved shopping for her grandchildren, wintering in Arizona, travel to Portland to see their sons and their families, and returning home to Milford and their wide circle of friends.

Preceded in death by her infant daughter Nancy Elizabeth, she is survived by Jackson R. Baker, her beloved husband of 63 years, their sons David (Debbie) Baker and Stephen (Tammy) Baker; adored grandchildren Lauren, Jackson, and Ashley; cousin Carol (Bill) McLeod as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.

I have wonderful memories of Virginia who was my mom's very best friend from their chidhood days in Grosse Pte. I had the pleasure of talking to her just a few weeks ago when she called to inquire about my mom. I feel very lucky to have had that opportunity. She was a gracious lady and I cherish the picture she gave me at my parent's 50th wedding anniversary of my mom when she was a little girl and Virginia's playmate. My condolences to Jack and the boys, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
