Thomas M. Johnson
July 05, 1917 - February 26, 2010
Thomas M. Johnson, died February 26, 2010 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Bloomfield Hills. He was 92 years old. Mr. Johnson was born July 5, 1917 in Flint, Michigan to parents Thomas J. and Catherine (nee Cronin) Johnson and proudly served as a pilot in the United States Army Air Corp. during World War II. He married Betty Ann Olson, the nicest, most wonderful woman he ever met, and they moved to Birmingham with their family in 1952. Mr. Johnson was a wholesale jeweler and a manufacturers’ representative. Because he traveled alot his family would wait for him eagerly on Friday evenings, greeting him by jumping all over him. He would throw his youngest child and only boy, Tommy, up in the air, much to everyone’s delight. Mr. Johnson was a wonderful man and although he frightened all the young male suitors who dated his daughters, he was an example of how men should treat women. He never had a drink of alcohol in his life but faced every obstacle head on, with great bravery and optimism. Mr. Johnson enjoyed basketball and was a great story teller, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving children, Mara (Bob “Soup”) Miller, Marian (John) Cotant, Nancy Hough, Jacque (Chet) Cosby, Debbie (Chuck) Smith, Jody (Peter) Gaudino, Kim (Gordie) Urquhart and Tom (Kate) Johnson; grandchildren, Jim (Kelly), Greg (Gina), Jeremy (Tammy), Martin (Carrie), Douglas (Debi), Johnny, Julie (Sean), Kristin (Curt), Matt (Leanne), Jeff, Kelly (Brian), Joe, Katie (Bob), Tom, Bill (Cassidy), Joe (Michelle), Joshua (Catherine), Jake (Courtney), Nathanial, Mike (Missy), Gary (Renee), Bill (Janet), Jackie, Zack (Kelly), Rachael, Andy, Matt (Rebekah), Nick, Adam, Ellie, Dan (Tatiana), Jeff, Molly, Julie, and Tommy; great-grandchildren, Marisa, Nathan, Kailey, Gregory, Lillian, Evelyn, Chelsey, Peyton, Keegan, Samantha, Nicolas, Olivia, Kylie, Connor, Madison, Brady, Stephanie N., Stephanie T., Nicholas, Thomas, Matthew, Mackenzie, Stephanie C., Cheryl, Brandon, Derrike, Gillian, Joshua, Elizabeth, Maizy and Elyse. He is also survived by his brother, Robert “Bud” (Sharan) Johnson. Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Ann (nee Olson) Johnson and granddaughter, Jill.

What a privlege it was to know Mr. Johnson. He was a mountain of a man, a mans man, and I mean that in the very best way. Mr. Johnson had a way about him that drew people to him. He was kind, lively, friendly and funny. You just knew how very much he cherished his family and how they cherished him. I always looked forward to seeing Mr. Johnson and getting a big, strong handshake and a warm smile from him. I know that he will be missed, but NEVER forgotten.

We loved your Dad, who we always called Uncle Tom. He and your Mom (we called her Aunt Betty Ann) were a big part of our family. We will never forget his roaring laugh, hilarious sense of humor and, above all, generous spirit. We grew up hearing Tom Johnson, Max Vorce and Dave Magee stories. Our hearts go out to you guys. Love, Anne Vorce

All of the Timyans send their love and condolensces. Your Dad ("Uncle Tom" to us kids) was a wonderfully huge part of my Dad's life. Dad says that his life changed when he met your dad at about 18 years old. Uncle Tom brought bigger tham life fun, laughter and good spirit everywhere he went. Your mom (Aunt BettyAnn) and dad were my parents' lifelong cherished friends, and their memories will always be treasured.

My deepsest sympathies to all the Johnsons. Big T will always be remembered for the great human being that he was. I cherish all the days I spent with him, and I will miss his humor, and direct approach to life. It took me years to figure out who "Nutsy-Feagan" was. Sincerely! John Kolar
